Audi switched to a new provider, but only newer MMI headunits that have a Qualcomm CPU are compatible. They came out with the updated headunit around 2019 and existing cars with the new headunit received a software update to enable the new provider if they originally shipped with Google Earth.
You will have way better maps if you just use one on your phone. Waze used to be the best, but right now I prefer Google Map. If you want off-line maps, I really like MapFactor. Besides up-to-date map, you will get powerful backend, current traffic condition information. And it is free.
If you need to update the firmware, do it first, and then proceed with the Audi maps of Australia update: Insert the card with the map update in the SD card slot of the MMI. Wait 30-60 seconds and choose “Yes” when the map update menu appears. Fully boot the MMI by pressing RADIO, CAR, NAV, MEDIA, and TEL buttons.
Insert the SD card with the activator in slot 1. Press the “Update” option using the MMI Control Panel. Scroll down with the big knob and select the source in the menu (SD 1) pressing it. Select the activator pressing the big knob once. Select “Standard”. You will see a list.Scroll to bottom and press”Start Update”.
